Michigan Jewish Food Fest Sunday, Aug. 28

The first Michigan Jewish Food Festival is happening this Sunday, August 28th, from 11am-4pm at Eastern Market’s Shed 5. Locavorious will be there, sharing samples of our delicious sweet sweet corn, telling folks about our unique winter-time CSA, and also bringing a new surprise frozen sweet treat!  (You’ll have to come to find out what we’ve been freezing up.)

Shed 5 will be packed with Detroit and southeastern Michigan’s entrepreneurial food vendors, environmental and food justice groups, kids’ activities, fresh produce, and more. Outside you’ll find workshops and seminars. NextGen’s bringing the music. Feet on the Street tours will be taking you through the Eastern Market.

Meet and learn from chefs like Michael Twitty and Hell’s Kitchen’s Jared Bobkin; hear from health and family experts like Moms Across America’s Zen Honeycutt,  Dr. Joel Kahn and Detroit Ento and Jewish Initiative for Animals. Plus, food justice seminars with Detroit Urban Farmers including Eden Garden’s Chava Knox and Oakland Avenue Farm’s Jerry Ann Hebron, plus a session on fair wages with Rabbi Alana Alpert, Detroit Jews for Justice and the Restaurant Opportunity Center. Find out What’s Spiritual About Food with Rabbi Rachel Shere, Rabbi Herschel Finman, WSU’s Dr. Justin Sledge (talking about ancient alcohol!), and Jewish Veg.

And of course there will be delicious FOOD all round to eat or take home. Food artisans and farmers, and loads of local restaurants will be set up in Shed 5 at Eastern Market. The event, and parking in the lot outside Shed 5, is FREE. Yes, free.

Ann Arbor peeps – there’s even a bus! Get your tickets here for sweet ride from the Ann Arbor Jewish Community Center to downtown Detroit’s Eastern Market. Hassle free & fun.

Hope to see you there!
