HomeGrown Local Food Summit 2011

Here is an invitation to the 3rd Annual HomeGrown LOCAL FOOD SUMMIT, a one-day grassroots gathering of people interested in food and community food security in Washtenaw County.  Hope to see you there!

The Summit will take place on Tuesday, March 1st from 8am to 4pm in the Morris Lawrence Building, on the campus of Washtenaw Community College.

SUMMIT PRIORITIES

As volunteer organizers we have heard repeatedly that Washtenaw County needs a strong local food economy with a diverse network of supporters. So we are broadening the call for participation, and the theme for this year’s Summit highlights local food as an economic driver. We hope you will consider participating.

SUMMIT SPEAKERS

We are thrilled to have food system experts Ken Meter, researcher at the Crossroads Resource Institute, and Dan Carmody, President of Detroit’s Eastern Market, speaking to the issues of successful models and best practices for building good, fair and healthy food businesses and initiatives in our region.  We will also be highlighting the statewide goals of the Michigan Good Food Charter, with Kathryn Colasanti to provide details.

PRE-SUMMIT OPENING EVENT

This year our opening event is the 1st Annual Michigan Good Food Film Festival, taking place on Monday, February 28 from 6pm to 9pm at Washtenaw Community College’s Morris Lawrence Building.  We will screen 10 short films (and award cash prizes to winners) that answer the question “What does good food mean to you?”  Admission is FREE and open to the public.  See details:
