February is for local food lovers! February’s share of locally-grown, frozen produce has berries, berries, berries. Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are perfect for heart-healthy eating or heart-warming Valentine’s cooking. In addition to the berry trio, the share has asparagus, butternut squash, green beans, sweet corn and new this year tomato sauce! Heart-healthy, locally made, naturally delicious.
We believe this is tomato sauce like Nonna used to make, from all local organically grown ingredients like ripe roma tomatoes, garlic, onions, fresh herbs. No added sugars or unpronounceable additives. Our ingredients are all from Tantre Organic Farm and the Goetz Family Farm….except for some olive oil, salt and pepper. Locavorious was lucky this year to have the leadership and cooking skills to make sauce happen, thanks in particular to Chef Magdiale Wolmark, former owner-operator of several farm-to-table restaurants, and Don Reichert, former pizza restaurant owner and barbecue specialist. With their help the kitchen crew prepared over 200 pints of hand crafted tomato and marinara sauce. Summer’s fresh tomato flavor is preserved beautifully by freezing, keeping us eating heart-healthy and local year round.
