Peach strawberry smoothies

Here is a tasty, easily adapted, dairy-free way to cool off and enjoy some fresh (or frozen) local fruit!  Andrea came up with this easy recipe for the Strawberry Showcase held in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town back in June, and got a great response from everyone who tasted it.

In June, you can use fresh strawberries and frozen peaches, and in August use fresh peaches and frozen strawberries.  With the wonderfully flavored local fruits, you barely need anything else but a blender.   With homemade smoothies, you control the ingredients and can easily change the recipe according to taste preferences.  

6 or 7 large frozen strawberries

3 Locavorious frozen peach halves (this month use 2 fresh peaches, pitted)

1/4 cup water (if using fresh fruit, use 1 cup of crushed ice instead)

Optional: 1 tablespoon Simple Syrup ( To make simple syrup: Combine 1 part water & 1 part sugar in a small saucepan; bring to a boil and boil a couple minutes, stirring.  Let cool.)

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.  Serve immediately!  A great, refreshing drink for summer or a fruity pick-me-up in winter.   

Yields 2-4 servings
